Letter Writing — Complete Guide
What is Letter Writing?
Letter writing is a way of communicating messages, information, requests or opinions in written form. In the SEE examination, students are asked to write different types of letters such as personal letters, official letters and letters to the editor.
Types of Letters in SEE

1. Personal Letter
A personal letter is an informal letter written to friends or relatives. The language is friendly and warm.
Structure of a Personal Letter

2. Official Letter
An official letter is a formal letter written to a school, office or organisation for official purposes such as requests, applications or information.

3. Letter to the Editor
A letter to the editor is a formal letter written to a newspaper to express public concern, opinions or suggestions about social issues.

Kathmandu 13th August 2026 The Editor The Rising Nepal Kathmandu Subject: Growing problem of plastic pollution in the city Respected Sir, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities and the public to the growing problem of plastic pollution in Kathmandu. Plastic bags and bottles are thrown everywhere, blocking drains and polluting the environment. I suggest that the use of plastic bags should be reduced and proper waste management should be practised. I request you to publish this letter so that people become more aware of this serious issue. Situation: Write a letter to the Principal requesting for a character certificate.
